The Connecticut (or Hartford or Wicked) Wits were a group of late-18th-century poets who first attempted to write a distinctly American literature. THEY FAILED.
Based on their best 4 or 5 songs, I'm going with Harrison:
From what I know, Harrison had three pop masterpieces: the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" and Something," and the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." Two other gems are his solo song "Blow Away" and "Photograph," a collaboration with Ringo Starr.
Nash was responsible for a couple of good Hollies songs, and other than that I know only of his CSN(Y) work. "Wasted on the Way" compares favorably to Harrison's best, and while "Just a Song Before I Go," "Teach Your Children," and "Our House" are each excellent, I'd say Harrison, hands down.
Georgee!!
ReplyDeleteharrison...genius, inspired, just the right level of 60s idealism, love the influences of eastern spiritualism in the melodies and lyrics.
